Karnataka cricket team

Although not the strongest team in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group, the Karnataka cricket team has seen it's fair share of glory in the Ranji Trophy tournament and has produced some of the finest superstars to emerge in the Indian cricket team. It has won the Ranji Trophy 6 times and has come runner-up 3 times.

Competition History

Karnataka has produced some of the best cricket players from the southern part of India. Its most recent wins were in the 1998/99 season and the 1997/98 season, in which it emerged victorious in its finals against Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh respectively. It also beat the Tamil Nadu cricket team in the Ranji Trophy season of 1995/96. This strong run in the Ranji Trophy was due to the emergence of Rahul Dravid, Javagal Srinath and Anil Kumble, all of whom have become Indian cricketing legends. The remainder of its victories were evenly spread in the 70s and 80s.

In the Irani Trophy, it has won 4 and lost 2 matches against the Rest of India team.
