Cherkasy
Cherkasy (Ukrainian: Черкаси, Russian: Черкассы, Cherkassy) - a city in the central part of Ukraine (about 200km south of Kiev), capital of Cherkasy oblast, with 280,700 inhabitants (2004). The city is located at 49°25′60″N, 32°4′0″E on the bank of Dnieper River, and in particular, the Kremenchuk water reservoir.
The train line from Moscow to Odessa goes through Cherkasy, crossing the Dnieper River here on a 12 km long bridge for trains and cars.
Educational institutions include the Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University (named after Bohdan Khmelnytsky) and the Cherkasy State Technological University.
