British

British is an adjective derived from Pretannic, one of the earliest collective descriptions used for the inhabitants of the British Isles. Since 1922 its meaning has changed, and it is now more commonly used as a quick way of saying "of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland", typically when used to describe the citizenship of a person from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
It can also be used for:
- Someone or something from the island of Great Britain
- With its original meaning in the geographical term British Isles
- As a descriptor of British English dialects collectively, or of the extinct Celtic language now called "British" or Brythonnic
- Brythons, the indigenous people of Great Britain
- Someone or something from one of the modern United Kingdom's predecessor states, these being -
