Within Wikipedia, a ban is a formal revocation of editing privileges on the main articles. The users are still able to edit any page; however, they are discouraged from doing so. A ban is sometimes confused with a block, but both have distinct meanings. A block will prevent the users from editing the page. An attempt to edit will be met with a "User is blocked" page.
